Event Details

Please join us for our 5th annual Gorgeous Gorges Colors on Saturday, October 19, at the Gorges State Park Visitors Center. With the Friends of Gorges State Park as sponsor and Gorges State Park as host, the event will allow a variety of exhibitors and participants who collectively will provide a fun, family-friendly day at the Park. We will have hayrides, face painting, pets for adoption, up-close with birds of prey (at 2 PM), food, music and free s’mores! Admission is free, so come enjoy nature’s color palette of fall.

This year’s Colors event is offering a new mix of family-friendly fun. Children’s favorites include face painting, hayrides and s’mores, while adults will enjoy the MudCats of Western Carolina University showcasing their talents with clay, including showing how to “throw pots.” The Cheef food truck will be on site all day offering amazing BBQ and sides. Cup and Saucer of Brevard will offer their eye-opening specialty coffees and mouth-watering pastries. Cane Creek and Slick Fisher Band will be performing during specific times of the day, and Peter Kipp of Curtis-Wright Falconry will demonstrate the talents of his Harris hawks at 2 PM.
The North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation has declared 2019 the “Year of the Snake” throughout its parks and natural areas system. Accordingly, Highlands Biological Station will have its information booth showing and describing these reptiles. And while the snakes are not available for adoption, the Cashiers/Highlands Humane Society will be on hand with some friendly, 4-legged creatures that may be adopted.
All exhibitors and participants will be located at the Gorges State Park Visitors Center. Much of our volunteer force will be comprised of the senior class of Rosman High School who will also have booths at the Visitors Center and the Rainbow Falls trailhead selling snacks, treats and T-shirts in their efforts to raise money to support the annual senior trip to Washington, DC and New York City. Other information booths include Headwaters Outfitters, Muddy Sneakers, Oxbow River Snorkeling and the Foothills Trail Conservancy.
