History and Mission of the Friends of Gorges State Park
Friends of Gorges State Park (FOG) was formed in March 2011 as a 501(c)3 non-profit, tax-exempt, tax-deductible public charity as a counterpart to the Park Advisory Committee, which was formed at the same time as Gorges State Park. The PAC was simply an advisory committee, leaving room for a second group to form that would fundraise and financially support park programs. In 2010, PAC leadership including Larry Ragsdale and Tom Thomas formed the FOG organization for that express purpose. The group was formed with the support of the Friends of State Parks.
